A Meal of Tilapia

The supermarket has been having tilapia fish at the counter for the past few months.

Having not tried it, I was curious to see what it was like.

But paying $6.99 a pound to try it was risky just in case it wasn't something we liked.

When we found it on sale for $1.99 a pound, we were pleased and anxious to have a meal of it.

We had read it was quickly becoming a favorite through out the US for it's very mild flavor that didn't have a fishy taste.

We cooked it on the grill, as we usually cook our fish to avoid the smell indoors.

The fillets were thin and it didn't take very long.

The cooked texture reminded me of salmon, not the like the other white fish of cod or haddock.

The taste was extremely mild - not much flavor at all.

But the thing that got me was the texture in my mouth.

It was mushy.

Salmon is not mushy.

Mush and me do not get along.

So glad we got the tilapia at such a deal - we will not be buying it again.

I can say the cat sure appreciated it though!

Mediterranean Flatbread

We have a new recipe to add to our growing collection.

It is for Mediterranean Flatbread.

We tried this style of bread for the first time last week as there was a loaf on the markdown rack.

What a treat it was - especially when we warmed it up in the oven.

Crisp on the outside, yet so tender on the inside.

And the taste was oh so good.

We just had to find out how to make it ourselves.

We made a batch this afternoon, and we are so pleased with the results.

It was so easy to do, and I can see us using it in the future for pizza too, only we will spread it a bit thinner for the crust.

If you haven't tried this style of bread before, give it a try - warmed in the oven.

I think you will be pleased!

Activia Greek Yogurt

The Activia brand yogurt has always been my favorite.

I have tried several different brands and styles, but I always went back to the Activia.

I really enjoy the Greek style of yogurts too, and was a bit disappointed that my brand didn't make it.

Well, a couple of months ago, Activa started  making the Greek style, but the only place I could find it was the expensive supermarket at $1.50 a cup.

I was so happy to see the market that I love to shop at is now carrying it.

At $1 a cup, I can afford to buy it even if it is a bit more expensive than the regular Activia yogurt.

It is also 6 ounces, where the regular one is only 4 ounces.

I feel the Greek style fills me up more than the regular style does.

It sticks with me longer too - could be those extra 2 ounces.

But since Greek is a thicker yogurt, I tend to think it is the style that keeps me fuller longer.

Either way, it's a good deal for a breakfast, and it is so yummy!

Newtons Fruit Thins

Article first published as There's Fiber in These Newtons on Blogcritics.

There is a new kind of Newtons on the market.

The Sunday paper had a coupon to save a $1.00 on these Fruit Thins, so I cut it out just in case they happened to be affordable.

I forgot all about them until I came across a display in the supermarket, and they also had a $1.00 coupon attached to them as a promotion.

Since this brought the price down even more, a package of the Raspberry Chocolate variety made its way into the cart.

With two grams of fiber per serving of three thins, I figured there could be worse things out there to have as a treat.

And to me, one of the most important things, there were no hydrogenated fats in them.

So, how did they taste?

I really liked them, but the the boys didn't want any more than their first ones - they were not impressed.

I thought they satisfied the need for crunch and chocolate.

They were not too sweet - that's what I think the boys didn't like - they really like the sugar.

There were quite a few raspberry seeds in them too, which they also didn't care for.

Would I buy them again?

You bet, and I just love the fact that they are all mine!
